About the Author
Aidan McMahon (aidanmcmahon.com) studied History and Hispanic Studies at Trinity College Dublin before living in Spain, Poland and, for many years, in Turkey. Here he developed an interest in the Turkic world and its languages (which include Uzbek), prompting him to travel extensively in the Balkans, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Travelling widely across Uzbekistan has given him a deep fondness for the country and a desire to communicate its attractions for travellers, which has culminated in him updating this new, fourth edition of Bradt’s Uzbekistan. McMahon has also written and contributed to guidebooks covering his native Ireland, Morocco and western Turkey. He complements his writing with travel photography (which can be seen on his website), and additionally has more than a decade of publishing experience, focusing on web content and digital media covering global trade and travel.

Absolutely love this guide, Brady Guides once again has published an incredible guide. There is so much more to do in Uzbekistan than I realised, and I love all the helpful tips.It may not have a lot of imagery, but this isn’t a kids books and you’ll see the sights with your eyes when visiting!Must have guide for anyone going to Uzbekistan, whether for the first time or not.
4.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality printing a real disappointment
Not a comment on the content, which is informative and well laid, as with all Bradt guides, but the cheap quality of the latest edition is really disappointing..super thin pages, premium quality feel of older Bradt guides is entirely missing, even the images suffer as a result. Assuming this is an effort to keep the cover price down, but it feels like it would barely survive a trip
5.0 out of 5 stars Essential guide for those visiting Uzbekistan
Incredibly comprehensive guide about Uzbekistan. The guide shows how much there is to do in Uzbekistan whilst delving into the fascinating history of the area. Whether you are visiting Uzbekistan for the first time, or have travelled many times, this guide is the perfect companion on your travels to learn the ins and outs of the country.Sophie Ibbotson is an expert in the region and shows the beautiful country through first hand accounts, whilst Bradt has once again shown how travel guides should be written. I can't wait to get my hands on the new edition!
5.0 out of 5 stars It covers everything you need to know and more!
Excellent guide, would thoroughly recommend, 5 outta 5. I've been wanting to Uzbekistan for years and will be doing so to celebrate my 50th next year (2026). The Bradt guidebook has proven invaluable in helping me plan and shape what will be holiday of a lifetime. It covers everything I needed to know and more from practical advice on where to stay, what to eat, how to get about to social norms and customs. Best travel guide I've ever bought. It even has a recipe for Plov (page 73)!
2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough photos and way too wordy
I ordered this guide because it was the only one not “independently published” (which means, some person put some generic info from the internet into the Amazon publishing tool).Unfortunately this guide was an utter disappointment anyway. It’s so wordy and some of the information provided is so unnecessary it’s laughable. The few photos included are grouped together in only 8 pages; they are all incredibly generic and don’t cover at all the magnificent architecture of the country. They did waste pages in colour to advertise their other guides though. You’re better off getting information from travel blogs.I will be returning this.
5.0 out of 5 stars In-depth coverage of Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is an incredible country to visit. I was very happy with this guidebook as it goes into much more depth than many of the other guidebooks out there. Sophie Ibbotson clearly knows the country and its history very well and this comes through.
Excellent Guide on Uzbekistan
