About the Author
After studying fashion and textiles at university, Angela Pressley worked in the fashion and textiles industries in London and Italy for over 20 years. In 2007 she set up her sewing school, The Sewing Club, where she teaches inspirational classes for children and adults. Her studio is based by the sea on the UK’s Kent coast, and she lives just outside Canterbury with her family and pets. Her first book, Sewing Machine Basics for Children, was published by CICO Books. I bought this to get some good ideas to use with my new sewing machine. As a beginner I wanted easy to follow suggestions. This was perfect. I’ve now made several items from the book and they have all worked well together

I’m a complete sewing novice. This book is helpful in some ways but I’ve found it difficult to understand some of the instructions easily so haven’t actually had the energy to try any of the projects yet. I was hoping for a complete idiots guide. This would probably be more helpful so someone with at least some basic ideas of what to do or definitely someone with more patience than me.

Just completed the first project in the book. (The table runner) on my new electronic machine. Clear written instructions, good photographs. I recommend a practice on an old sheet. (I was getting to grips with lots of new things). The mitered corners took a bit of working out, but came out beautifully on the actual runner and serviettes. On to the next project. Very calming and satisfying.

If you’ve never sewn before or like me forgotten how to do things then this is the book for you. The instructions are clearly written with limited sewing jargon and easy to follow with accompanying illustrations. The projects are functional and I’m looking forward to making the plant pot covers as gifts this Christmas.
