5.0 out of 5 stars What a brilliant book!

We love everything about this book! It is mind opening, enthusiastic and engaging from the spice descriptions and explanations through to the recipes. It oozes a sense of precise curation from the author, contributors and editors that you seldom see in food writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant book and cookbook about spices

K.C. · 5 December 2022

I love spices, but mostly when other people cook with them. I have my go-to 5 or 6 but never get more adventurous than that. That is until I bought this book. It's not just a cookbook. It also gives detailed information on a vast array of spices, their origin, uses, and food pairings. There are spice blends you can make. Much more satisfying than getting the from a jar and so simple to put together. I have definitely upped my use of spices since I bought this book, and every recipe (so far) has been delicious. In the spring I might even take the plunge and start to grow some of my own!

3.0 out of 5 stars Would give this five stars but....

Loved the recipes they give quite a perspective on some "new" and up and coming spices not usually seen around. Though you will need to search a bit on-line to find them. The lack of five stars goes to the chosen font size, l had to use a magnifying glass to read this book, a very common problem now, why is it publishers all assume the reader has electron microscopes for eyes, the font needs to be bigger - given the amount of free page left in the book this could have been accomplished easily - and the ink tones could be darker.Otherwise an excellent addition to the kitchen library.

A most beautiful book full of the most wonderful spices but although the recipes are not complicated they do require advanced planning. It would be great fun to invite friends or family to try these recipes together. As it is a book to enjoy reading and thinking perhaps one day……

its okay

This is a fantastic book about how to use spices with tons of delicious recipes. I highly recommend it!

Wonderful Book

H.A.W. · 31 October 2022

Really great and a nice companion to Herb by the same author. More than anything, it's an impetus to get in the kitchen and fiddle with familiar and unfamiliar spices. I've had the book for a couple of weeks and have already made a number of lovely things, including some well-balanced and interesting spice blends. It's also quite pleasant read as he has a really engaging voice. If you're interested in really delving into the world of spices, this is a wonderful jumping off point for all sorts of interesting exploration.
