Self-Care for the Real World: Practical self-care advice for everyday life

Description:

THE TOP TEN BESTSELLER: A BEAUTIFUL AND ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO BRINGING SELF-CARE INTO YOUR LIFE.

'Unusually practical, non-patronising and authentic. Think Marie Kondo for the mind' Sunday Times

'A thoughtful street map to self-care that will also look beautiful on your shelf.' Independent

'Sane, smart and deeply wise.' Sienna Miller

'I want to give this book to everyone I know!' Kate Moss

'Do yourself a kindness, and buy this book.' Jools Oliver

Wellness pioneers Nadia Narain and Katia Narain Phillips have spent decades helping others to feel their best. But it took them a bit longer to learn to care for themselves. Here they share the small, achievable steps they picked up on a lifetime’s journey towards self-care, and how you can apply them to your life, wherever you are.

Right now, you may be deep in the waves of life, being tossed around. Learning self-care is like building your own life boat, plank by plank. Once you’ve got your boat, you’ll still be rocked by the same waves, but you’ll have a feeling of safety, and a stability that means you can pick other people up on your way.

Unusually practical, non-patronising and authentic. Think Marie Kondo for the mind, if you will, or the Hemsleys for the soul ― Sunday Times

The book, which is clean and minimalist in its design, is broken down into easily absorbed, instructive heads . . . [it's] unpatronising, friendly yet not overfamiliar . . . a thoughtful street map to self-care that will also look beautiful on your shelf. ―
Independent, Best self-care books

How to upgrade your mornings, by Kate Moss and Sienna Miller’s wellness gurus. ―

This little gem totally hits the sweet spot between gorgeous (but not oppressively girly) design, some neat psychological tricks and a handful of refreshing recipes and meal ideas ―
The Pool

As beautiful to look at as it is practical, it is a compendium of inspiration and tips on how to incorporate self-care into contemporary life ―

The book is written with so much love. I feel like Nadia and Katia are holding my hand through it, but not judging me in any way

This is the book I’ve been waiting for - it's the real deal! It’s gorgeous to look at and super practical.I heard about this book and bought it when it first came out. I’ve now had the chance to read and reread it (and pass along copies to friends and family). As a self-help junkie, I find most authors have concepts and action plans that are difficult if not impossible for those of us with limited willpower, time and budgets to implement in day-to-day life. Most of those books leave me feeling worse about myself and my efforts.Self-Care for the Real World is a much needed breath of fresh air and a warm hug! These authors give clear, gentle words of wisdom and provide achievable steps. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I feel reassured by the sound, soulful, supportive advice for those of us struggling to love and look after ourselves.Thank you, thank you!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Doable, realistic and like advice from your most trusted best friend. Fab.

I'm not usually one to write reviews, but this book has motivated me to do so. I've read several titles that are about self care, but this book is different for me. It's realistic, it's down to earth, it covers so much and I love that holistic approach. Eating, sleeping, friends and family, exercise, travelling, self confidence, hope, joy and love are all covered in easy speak. No mumbo-jumbo in this book, just a wonderful read as if you're getting loving, caring advice from a non- preachy brilliant friend. It's set out in sections so you can dip into it easily for quick advice. It's the sort of book you'll refer to again and again and it'll be on my list of gifts to buy my friends this year. What a great way to reading start the new year!

Recommended by the Sunday times magazine, and interested in self care I brought this book. The recipes are good and so are the tips on medication for healing, difficult situations are helpful I didnt find it as beneficial as other self care books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small steps kind and gentle - if your unsure about self help start here!

M.C.C.W. · 21 January 2018

After hearing th authors on the radio I had to try this - apart from anything else it’s not about unravelling your issues and putting yourself back together. Self care is a term I’d heard but not understood, and I’m not one for reading a book for myself and that’s exactly why I bought it! I’m only a few chapters in and I’ve learned a lot. I’ve had cpd for anxiety in the past, and I understand how powerful changing a negative emotion from one situation can ensure you remain in control. Small steps, no ‘pull yourself apart emotionally and put it back’ approach, simply nurturing and kind. A little like a pep talk from a very well informed friend. I think this will be by the bed for regular reads long after I’ve finished it

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read but some tips not relateable

K.C. · 9 April 2019

It's of tips for being calm but many of them not relatable for me. Lots were yoga poses, recipes and ways in which to use calming oils.

5.0 out of 5 stars For me a life changer

I don’t really have the time to do this but… I am going to start to take care of me a little more. My journey to self help has started through reading this book. Self Care for the real world is as it says on the tin, this time please judge a book by its cover, it does as it says and it gives you tips that can help you look after you and enables you not to feel guilty for doing so but done so in such a fashion that you feel you are listening to a friend rather than being preached at.This is the first book that I have read cover to cover since the birth of My eldest son nearly 13 years ago, it really has been too long, I have even started highlighting parts that I will be using as my own personal mantras 😄 I have laughed, I have cried whilst reading this truly beautiful and empowering book. I have a long way to go to love myself and in loving yourself I have realised that we are not being egotistical. Everyone male or female needs to learn to love and take care of oneself whether it be taking 5 minutes out to get in touch with what is upsetting you so that you can resolve it through to learning how to breath properly. Thank you Nadia and Katia for writing this book and as per Kate Moss I want to give this book to everyone I know. Unfortunately I can not afford to do this so here is my recommendation to you, go get this book everyone can learn to grow reading this.

Ive just started reading this accessible book full of good ideas to help you get balance and positivity into your life. Highly recommend.I have now finished the book and feel very fulfilled with a rucksack of ideas and strategies to cope in the real world as a mother, wife and teacher. The book is beautifully presented with a delightful ribbon bookmark that makes the book look and feel special to hold. There is also a good amount of honesty and humour in the book which makes it authentic and realistic.I am very excited to hear there is a 2nd book being written looking forward to reading that one too.

4.0 out of 5 stars A light and practical read.

Practice advice and a personable writing style made this book an enjoyable and uplifting read. Would recommend to anyone in need of some self care direction.

Amazing book! A must read..

A. · 1 April 2018

From reminders to practice the simpler things in life like gratitude, to becoming aware and removing the subconscious constraints society pushes on us. Ideas on how to be present and mindful when preparing and consuming meals to handling stressful situations, this book covers so much. Written by two sisters who've spent their lives teaching and practicing in different aspects of health & wellness, its an inspiring read with essential advice and tips for basically everyone. I especially loved the meditations between chapters and the comfort of feeling that I wasn't the only one that sometimes feels like Im going about it all wrong. This book is among many other things, a big warm hug.
