5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book

A.C. · 13 March 2025

Beautiful cookbook with lovely stories about the people of Palestine. This book not only has some wonderful recipes it provides an insight into the rich culture of the Palestinian people who are currently living under such horrific circumstances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, well-written and AMAZING food

C. · 19 July 2022

Love a cookbook and this is definitely a current favourite. A cookbook with soul! So many stunning recipes to choose from, but adored Hassan's Easy Eggs, really simple and yet absolutely delicious. Like Ottolenghi's Jerusalem I like having a slice of someone's life in a recipe book and this is life that deserves to be seen and tasted. Just gorgeous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book with delcious recipes

P.C. · 20 October 2024

This is a beautifully illustrated book with lovely commentary. The recipes are challenging at times but well worth the effort

4.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous and authentic Palestinian food

P. · 23 August 2020

Lovely book delicious food and lots to cook. Same format as the Ottolenghi books but hardly surprising. Lots and lots of vegetarian recipes which is great. Quite a lot of aubergine so you had better be a fan. Overall a good addition to your library if you like middle eastern food. I have to say as others have commented it is a bit heavy on the political commentary and Palestinian politics which a bit out of place really

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful variety, easy to find ingredients & sublime tastes......

M.J.R. · 24 November 2020

I'd never cooked Middle Eastern food before I got this book back in April.Judging by the pages that now have various ingredients & food smeared into them, I'm now on recipie number 25 or so & becoming quite the expert on burnt aubergine as well as quite the fan of tahini & shatta. If you are doing anything with tahini, follow the advice of Tara & Sami in the glossary. Having tried both kinds - the Greek/Macedonian/ Cypriot variety & the Arab/Israeli kind, I can confirm the latter is in a different league & once you have had it, there is no going back.Oh & if you are making Shatta, (definitely recommended), stick with the shorter, fatter chillies if you can. The resulting taste is punchy, but not in an explosive, 'gimme some milk fast' kind of way.My time management can be a bit dodgy, so the 'getting ahead' section is very useful. The ingredients are easy to find in supermarkets & delis & the instructions are simple to follow. As for the resulting dish, the sublime combination of different spices & herbs will take your palate on a voyage of discovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful recipe book, amazing recipes & photos

M. · 14 June 2021

I love recipe books, I'm a "repeat offender". But this recipe book is probably one that I love the most. The recipes are unique, yet simple, easy to follow & readily available ingredients that aren't difficult to find. I like the stories behind some of the recipes. The photos are beautiful & enticing - they make me want to cook each & every recipe with many options from vegetarian to seafood to meat. I've cooked a number of the recipes so far & have loved them all. I would highly recommend this book. I've learnt so much about middle-eastern food, beyond the usual meals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful recipes and stories

j. · 21 August 2024

Beautiful book filled with delicious recipes and stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic book

C. · 5 April 2020

I am very impressed with the book. The recipes look wonderful and I like books like this where you get a feeling for the area the recipes originate and stories of local people. Today I will make the baked kofte with aubergine and tomatoes as I have all the ingredients though I will use just beef mince as I don’t have any lamb mince. I am flexiterean so am pleased there are so many vegetable based recipes-I made the cauliflower fritters yesterday and they are even better cold than hot. The chopped salad is great too. I have the ingredients to make the chickpea and marrow or courgettes in yoghurt so I’ll make that today too as it looks good-the photos are really helpful as it helps in regards to unfamiliar recipes. Over all a fantastic book.

Un meraviglioso libro non di sole ricette

G. · 4 September 2023
