10,000 Knitted Hats by Jo Allport is an interactive knitting book that guides knitters in using their own creativity to design a variety of unique hats. Instead of just a selection of hat patterns, Allport has divided hat construction into its three main components--brims, bodies, and crowns--and provided a selection of stitch pattern instructions for each part that knitters can use to create their own mix-and-match hat patterns.....
What makes this book truly unique is the flip-page style: the main section of the book is a flip-page style book, with the 23 full-size pages cut into thirds. The bottom third includes a variety of brim options, the middle third contains options for the body of the hat, and the top third includes options for crown shaping.....
Each of the mix-and-match pages includes all the information necessary for knitting that part of the hat. All the pattern components are worked flat and use the same DK weight yarn (Rico Design Essentials Merino DK) and come in three adult sizes (18.5", 21", and 23").....
The 80-page book measures 9"x 10.5" and is nice and sturdy, with a hardcover and concealed wire binding so it lies perfectly flat when it's opened. It's filled with full-color photographs for each of the hat components, some completed hats, and plenty of helpful technique photos. 10,000 Knitted Hats is a perfect book for hat knitters who love mix-and-match patterns or are looking for pattern inspiration (which you are sure to find in this book!).
"My "hat" goes off to you Jo Allport for this brilliant idea of creating your own design combos. 10,000 Knitted hats is a book that gives one an opportunity to design their own hat. Simply flip over the pages to choose your favorite and start to knit. I love this concept! As a knitting designer, I love having options and this book definitely gave a variety of unique and clever ideas. I also noticed that when the pages line up exactly, you can find a design that has been knitted before. Simply flip over one page of the crown, body, and brim at the same time. I'm going to try to knit the yellow hat which is the four-point decrease (crown), parallelograms (body), and lace rib (brim). I have a few Mix & Match children's books but I've never seen a knitting book published this way. Also, the illustrations were well done. I highly recommend this book."

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous book but patterns are for flat knitting only
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } This is a gorgeous book and I was absolutely delighted with it until I realised that all the patterns are knitted flat. I only knit hats in the round and I'm not clever or patient enough to work out how to change all those lovely patterns to round knitting. So, unfortunately, I had to return it
5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
This is the best hat knitting book I have ever come across. It is spiral bound and each page is divided into three sections horizontally so you can flip the sections over. This means that no matter which hat brim you fancy, you can make the middle different and the top different again, should you wish, and all for small, medium and large adult heads. The instructions are also easy to understand, and I speak as a mediocre knitter. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book!!!
This is soooo good, great hat patterns, so pleased I bought it
4.0 out of 5 stars Fab book with multiple hat combinations
I am quite new to knitting and thought it would be a good idea to learn different patterns on small items (was concerned I would need to undo rather a lot). Great patterns, fun to mix up the combinations of brim, body and crown and I am making hats for charity, which will hopefully be useful. Also chuffed that I have not had to undo much.
5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile and easy to follow
Fantastic! Very easy to follow and perfect for beginners.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!!!
I really like how this book works, because each page is in 3 parts you can mix and match the brim, body and top of each hat, a great idea, brilliant !!!!
2.0 out of 5 stars This book is really not good
I really don't see to whom this book would be of great use. The hats are to be knitted flat. All them of them. Even when colourwork is involved, which really really doesn't make sense.I gave it two stars as you do get a few interesting stitch patterns like you would find in a stitch dictionary. But be aware that these stitch patterns aren't all very beginner-friendly. And who would be the most interested in knitting flat an accessory that is traditionaly knitted in-the-round ? Beginners. The patterns are only available in 3 sizes (S, M, L). Not much if you wish to knit hats for all the family.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice book
All the pattern are separate you can make your own style
interesting book for knitted hats
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I liked it very much. The presentation is very original and gives a lot of ideas!
A great way to design your own hats!
This book is set up like a kids mix & match book. It separates the hat patterns into a crown, center & brim so that you can easily combine those elements from different hat patterns. It is really an ingenious & easy way to knit hats that are uniquely yours. It is really a fun way to come up with new versions of knitted hats!
Its brilliant
I am very impressed with this book it arrived last week and I have made three beanies already ( I knit for charity) the book is easy to use and the mix matching of designs it very unique and fun, I don't know why the book format isn't used in other knitting books this way, great idea , great book. I highly recommend it.
Nice pattern book
I love the way it was designed. Very easy to follow with a lot more variety than most knitting patterns. I would recommend purchasing this book
Outstanding Book!
This is exactly what I needed. Having lost all of my hair due to chemo, I enjoy knitting beanies to cover my bare scalp. I have made a number of caps using the best pattern I could find on the internet, but this book provides a tremendous number of variables. The book has three flip-it sections, so you can vary the design of the cap. I love it! On a scale of 0 to 10, I would give it a 12! Thanks for a great book!
