5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure trove of a book.

I know this is going to be one of those books that will, over the years, become heavily thumbed, fall open at the most used recipes and get spattered with ingredients. It is one of those books that make you want to cook EVERY recipe. There must be few areas of the world with such a diversity of cuisines as the Caribbean, and the beautiful photographs, along with Keshia’s Sakarah’s wonderfully vivid writing make for mouthwatering anticipation as you read.So far I’ve been reading it for the fascinating and moving history it tells, including the generous sharing by Keshia Sakarah of some of her own family’s stories. I’ve already cooked the Bonbon Siwo (Haitian gingerbread) and it was easy as pie and oh so good.A very special book. I highly recommend it.

This is a really beautiful cookbook with loads of history and information within it. This isn't a cusine I am familiar with cooking so there is lots to learn but it all looks really achievable. I'm looking forward to finding unusual ingredients (online because I live rurally) and trying some new things

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful & Rich, Amazing Book!

This is an excellent cook book and history book. Never have I read a book like this before. It delves into the deep history of the Caribbean and how different cultures over hundreds of years played a significant role and had a influence on the recipes of certain dishes. The recipes are amazing too.

5.0 out of 5 stars History & Culture You Can Taste

Caribe is more than a cookbook - it’s a love letter to the Caribbean, the diaspora experience and a powerful reminder of how our history lives on through food. The care taken to highlight the nuances of smaller islands and the thoughtful explanations of ingredient differences speak volumes about the depth of research and respect poured into this body of brilliance. You can feel the passion, mindfulness, and meticulous effort on every page.I’ve already tried the curry goat recipe - it was absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to try many more!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully creative book

This is a truly wonderful book. From the creative design, carefully crafted stories through to the actual recipes. It all mixes to echo authentic tastes, smells and the sounds of the past.

Excellent Book

R.L. · 24 June 2025

I have really enjoyed this book so far. Not only is it an interesting history and perspective on the people of the Caribbean's but also a great cook book. The introduction was an introspective read for me in many ways with the author (and indeed her community in general) dealing with the trials, tribulations and separation from her homeland. The only difference, and it is a huge difference, was my own separation was voluntary.Having lived a few years in some of the Caribbean islands (Bahamas and USVI) I always enjoyed the culture, food and drink. Getting to read the history of where many of my favorite dishes came from and how they are prepared has been very rewarding. So thank you to the author. The food recipes I have tried so far have all turned out excellent. I have made the Ginger Beer and Guava Wine, again excellent. The Ginger Beer brought back memories of my mother making the drink when I was a kid, complete with exploding bottles in the pantry. My mother's recipe was quite a bit different though. This is a very solid book in itself, not a cheap make at all. Lovely photos and personal stories abound.
