Adaptability is inbuilt here with alternative ingredients suggested in each recipe. It is written in sections, each one for recipes showcasing each canned product. Admirably and colourfully illustrated, this book is a delight to own; most highly recommended!
5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it and dive in - easy and delicious recipes
This is my number one go to cookbook for really special but straightforward meals. I am forever in awe of the authors ability to create so much flavour from everyday ingredients I have in the fridge or store cupboard - I never find myself passing over a recipe because I have no idea where I’ll find the obscure ingredient. We have cooked 90% of the recipes in here now and have yet to have a failure, although some are on a more heavy rotation than others. Particular favourites are the prawn and dosas, thank goodness they serve four so as a couple we can have them two nights in a row! Thank you Jessica and can’t wait for the next offering.
5.0 out of 5 stars Not just tins!
Each chapter is based around one tin - anchovies, sweetcorn, coconut milk, chickpeas etc. With a good store cupboard you are ready to go. The tins themselves do not make the meal. One chef says if a book gives you one recipe then it is worth buying. I have made several meals already and the aioli is wonderful. Make a pot and keep in the fridge for chicken, veggies, as a dip. So I am pleased. Quite different from Tin Can Magic by Jack Monroe but worth buying.
5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious tin can meals
I love this cookbook! So accessible and great for those days when you are low on ingredients and just have to make do with what you have in the cupboard and fridge. Each recipe has replacements for many of the ingredients making it even easier to find what you need to make a tasty meal. I also like the way it themes each chapter on one tinned item, like broad beans. So far everything I have made from it has been delicious too!
5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must have!
This cookbook is such a gem and I’ve already cooked several recipes from it. The writing is straightforward and the recipes really simple, yet everything I have tried so far has been utterly delicious! Jess clearly knows what works for busy working people and this book has everything you need to make wonderful food with few ingredients and not much time. It is pure genius to use store cupboard staples in this way as each recipe seems extraordinary. The layout of the book also gives you alternative ingredients if you don’t have everything to hand which is really helpful. And it also points out which ones are great for lunchbox leftovers which I love.Every home cook should have it!!! A delightful read :)
5.0 out of 5 stars Great little book for the store cupboard
Makes use of what you have in the way of tins, some great veggie ideas. If you’re ever in Edinburgh, you must try the restaurant 27 Elliot, really worth a visit.
5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious and easy recipes for all occasions
After loving Jessica Dennison’s first cook book, I was so excited for this book to arrive...and it has not disappointed! Not only is the book beautiful to look at, the recipes look delicious, and for those that I’ve tried so far, they are very easy to do. The squash fenugreek curry is my favourite, and is now first choice for a no-fuss dinner party. Can’t wait to try the spiced lamb and tomato flatbreads, and the tomato butter sugo! I hope there is a third book by Jessica to come...

Beautiful cookbook for your budget, health, and the environment !
Such a wonderful and useful book ! I love that the recipes are so accessible for cooks of any level and the author provides substituons for ingredients! I’ve yet to cook any of the meat dishes, but all of the vegetarian recipes (lentils, butter beans, or tomato dishes) so far have been perfect for health, budget, and the environment ! Gorgeous photography as well and a joy to flip through.
Nice Straightforward Recipes
I love cookbooks like this. No jargon, just clear instructions. Many recipes are just for 2 people, something that is so rare these days.
An original collection of pantry recipes
I'm in love with this book - the design is fresh and modern, just like the inspired recipes inside. Make the white beans!
You can finally use up you canned food stash!
This book is written around the premise that you can rustle up dinner using pantry staples. The author runs a cafe and supper club in Edinburgh, Scotland. The chapters are anchored by the following: anchovies, beans, coconut milk, lentils, tomatoes, cherries, condensed milk, chickpeas and sweetcorn. The recipes are very varied and far more sophisticated than you would expect. You will notice French, Italian, Middle-Eastern and Asian influences.Although you are cooking from canned food as a base, some of the recipes will take quite some time, if only on the cooking in the oven stage but others take twenty five minutes. The recipes do give a timing for preparation and cooking time. The measurements are shown in both grams and ounces.
