Tin Can Magic: Simple, Delicious Recipes Using Pantry Staples

Description:

Tin Can Magic does exactly what it says on the tin – simple, delicious recipes using tinned ingredients.

Jessica Elliott Dennison understands the importance of having a capsule-wardrobe style cupboard of cheap, familiar tinned items that can be tweaked every week to create an interesting, seasonal menu. This book helps you do just that – focusing on easy meal solutions based around what readers might already have to hand, with smart ideas for adding flavour, freshness and contrast.

Try your hand at Chilled chilli tomato noodles with crispy garlic and sesame; Za'atar roasted chicken and whipped butter bean dip with burnt greens and lemon; or Crispy coconut milk pancakes with prawns and garlic vinegar.

If you're in the mood for something sweet, why not rustle up the Set lemon pudding, Hazelnut frangipane cherry galettes or Miso-salted caramel? Tin Can Magic shows you that, with a little bit of guidance, and a tin or two from the back of the cupboard, you can create mouthwatering meals for any night of the week.

After loving Jessica Dennison’s first cook book, I was so excited for this book to arrive...and it has not disappointed! Not only is the book beautiful to look at, the recipes look delicious, and for those that I’ve tried so far, they are very easy to do. The squash fenugreek curry is my favourite, and is now first choice for a no-fuss dinner party. Can’t wait to try the spiced lamb and tomato flatbreads, and the tomato butter sugo! I hope there is a third book by Jessica to come...

This is my number one go to cookbook for really special but straightforward meals. I am forever in awe of the authors ability to create so much flavour from everyday ingredients I have in the fridge or store cupboard - I never find myself passing over a recipe because I have no idea where I’ll find the obscure ingredient. We have cooked 90% of the recipes in here now and have yet to have a failure, although some are on a more heavy rotation than others. Particular favourites are the prawn and dosas, thank goodness they serve four so as a couple we can have them two nights in a row! Thank you Jessica and can’t wait for the next offering.

This cookbook is such a gem and I’ve already cooked several recipes from it. The writing is straightforward and the recipes really simple, yet everything I have tried so far has been utterly delicious! Jess clearly knows what works for busy working people and this book has everything you need to make wonderful food with few ingredients and not much time. It is pure genius to use store cupboard staples in this way as each recipe seems extraordinary. The layout of the book also gives you alternative ingredients if you don’t have everything to hand which is really helpful. And it also points out which ones are great for lunchbox leftovers which I love.Every home cook should have it!!! A delightful read :)

Excellent book of useful, delicious and easily-assembled dishes to delight all, both vegetarian or not. Adaptability is inbuilt here with alternative ingredients suggested in each recipe. It is written in sections, each one for recipes showcasing each canned product. Admirably and colourfully illustrated, this book is a delight to own; most highly recommended!

This book is written around the premise that you can rustle up dinner using pantry staples. The author runs a cafe and supper club in Edinburgh, Scotland. The chapters are anchored by the following: anchovies, beans, coconut milk, lentils, tomatoes, cherries, condensed milk, chickpeas and sweetcorn. The recipes are very varied and far more sophisticated than you would expect. You will notice French, Italian, Middle-Eastern and Asian influences.Although you are cooking from canned food as a base, some of the recipes will take quite some time, if only on the cooking in the oven stage but others take twenty five minutes. The recipes do give a timing for preparation and cooking time. The measurements are shown in both grams and ounces.
