95% of what's needed - in 5% of the space
A brief yet nearly comprehensive introduction to many religions and spiritualities. It is especially useful when ready by fellow Christians. The author applies his Christian perspective mildly to most of these religions, and a little more strongly to a few that more closely resemble or compete with his Christianity (JWs, LDS). Non-Christians can also benefit from it if they can learn to factor in the author's perspective.I have both the paperback and Kindle versions. The paperback reads well and the graphics are splendid. The e-book also reads mostly well. There was, at first, an apparent problem (on computer Kindle, not phone Kindle) seeing the full display of the Family Tree of Far Eastern Religions (e-loc. 777; paperback p. 61). Zooming out was not helping. But when I changed the Width of the screen, that solved the problem. (You can adjust the width either by mouse-grabbing the page edges and moving them sideways, or clicking "View" at the top, "Show Display Options," and adjusting the "Page width" slider until it works.)My favorite page in the book may be the above Family Tree of Far Eastern Religions (e-loc. 777; paperback p. 61). It gives a chronological bird's-eye view of the development of two metaphorical "trees" ("Hindu" and "Chinese"), the ancient soil they come from, the branches that emerge (lots of Buddhist branches and more), and ultimately their relevance to spiritualities worldwide.I'm hoping to teach a Religions class at church soon, and I hope to get numerous copies of this book into their hands.
Overall good
But too much info to process. Probably need to read it 5-6 times to grasp.
Liked it
I like this little book. It gives key points to various world religions. Great brief key info to provide a general understanding of world religions.
Great Idea.
Paul Garden had a magnificent idea in creating this book, bringing it into reality and print. Well Researched, put together and informative! I believe, If we understand the faiths of people, we better understand the people around us and are more accepting, loving and kind to them. This book is very well done. Brilliant! I highly recommend reading this book no matter your faith or lack of.
Alright book
Slanted academia, focuses more on conversion than just teaching world religion. It also leaves out many world religions. Alright as an intro to those wanting to learn about world religion.
