5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for Thoth Tarot

G. · 16 May 2014

It has been 4 years since I bought this book and I am now writing a positive review and so this book has certainly stood the test of time.It is very, very useful for the Thoth Tarot deck - although the book is not based upon the Thoth deck I find myself using it as a reference for the Thoth tarot and find that it expands upon the meanings given by Snuffin and Akron/Banzhaf in their books on the Thoth tarot.Initially when I bought this book I read it once and placed it on the shelf to gather dust. I did this for two reasons: (1) it was not based on the Thoth tarot deck and (2) I found the explanations of the cards very confusing due to the length of the explanations. However, having read many books on the Thoth tarot I now find that this book expands upon the meanings given by other authors on the Thoth tarot and that 95% of the explanations given in this book are relevant for the Thoth tarot (there are a few cards which do not seem to connect to the Thoth tarot in the meanings given but these are very few indeed). The meanings given add far more depth and variety with Key Words and Phrases given for each card along with Upright and Reversed meanings and Situation and Advice along with what People are represented by the card. Initially, this information was overload for me, which is why I found Snuffins book good for beginners of the Thoth tarot as he just relied on a few sentences. Now that my tarot has progressed I appreciate this book more than ever. The book also has useful chapters on numerology, in fact the Minor Arcana are dealt with in numerical order to stress the importance of numbers, for example, it shows all the 2's together then the 3's etc, rather than all the wands and then all the cups etc.The book has a very good chapter on the Celtic Cross, giving in-depth meanings for each card placement along with actual Celtic Cross readings that the author did - which is good for practice.I appreciate this book more and more as my knowledge and experience has increased and so if you are a beginner I would recommend that you stick with this book and maybe keep referring to it. (It might be the case that you will put it on the shelf like I did only to refer to it again once you have gained some experience.) Those of you at a more advanced stage will appreciate the in-depth meanings given for each card.Highly recommended - especially for the Thoth tarot (although do not make this your first book for the Thoth tarot - for that you need Snuffins book "The Thoth Companion").

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST Tarot books out there!!!

L.M. · 31 March 2009

I bought this Tarot book after I realised that the one that came with my set wasn't as reliable as it could be and I was amazed. Each card is analysed in a fair amount of depth, explaining what the card means in a few words, some key words often associated with it, situation and advice that go with the card and people the card might represent. This is then repeated for the reverse card, which I thought impressive, because it goes into equal amount of detail. Not only that, but the book also goes into a little about Tarot and Astrology, and Numerology. It has a section of some of the history of Tarot, as well as a few spreads and a large section giving you tips on how to interpret a spread. The detail in this book is exquisite and is a must have for any Tarot-lover

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners

I find this a real insight into the Tarot, especially for beginners like me. I enjoy reading it and using it. Loads of common sense and inspiration. Quite packed with info. Happy with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, to the point.

T.N. · 23 July 2011

Very clear and to the point. Insightful and it told you the story behind the tarot cards - Behind the major Arcanas, they actually formed a sequential story. For the minor Arcanas, the number itself has a meaning. It was interesting and I didn't know before reading the book. Different spreads which serve different purposes are also included. The author has years of experience in tarot reading and was able to give a profound description to each card.

4.0 out of 5 stars good value

c. · 10 October 2013

the book is thorough with good analysis of the minor arcana cards as well as the major ones - well worthy as a guide to help in reading the cards and the suggested spreads

5.0 out of 5 stars The place to start...

S. · 27 August 2018

Helpful and makes the "basics" so easy to remember by the structure. Wish I had purchased this years ago and the best book to date for those who are just getting to meet The Tarot. There is a vast market for this subject, to those new to it...start here with this book and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the absolute best, needed and apprciated book on Tarot.

M. · 16 July 2014

My favourite go to book for very accurate interpreation of individual cards, and I have a whole library fulll of books on the subject. A very happy surprice to find this book! I absolutely recommend it to anyone with true desire to understand the meaning of the Tarot cards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the tin.

L. · 23 January 2013

After being asked over and over if I read the tarot I decided the time was right. This was purchased as a guide and I found it extremely helpful as the guide you get in with the cards is very limited. I would reccommend this book anyone who has a methodical approach to learning anything. It gives a good grounding for you until you develope your own take on each card. Well worth the money.
