4.0 out of 5 stars Addictive and unputdownable ✨
— 4 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"Sugar, you deserve to go out on your own terms. Just because you got dusted doesn't mean you're done."📖 | 348 pages👤 | author Lyla Sage🏢 | independently published📅 | release date 6 June 2023What you can expect:— First-person POV— Brother's best friend— Friends-to-lovers— Small-town, cowboy romance— Dual-POV— ADHD, anxiety and PTSD representationTrigger warnings include: anxiety, trauma after an injury, panic attacks (on-page), alcohol consumption, explicit sexual content, references to controlling behaviour within a relationship, death of a parent (past, off-page), discussions of toxic childhood environment and parental relationships.Done and Dusted is the book one in the Rebel Blue Ranch series by debut author Lyla Sage. After a life-altering and traumatic injury results in Emmy Ryder uprooting her entire life and returning home to the small-town she spent her adult-life running away from, Emmy is faced with difficult decisions and new revelations. For the first time in her life Clementine Ryder has no idea what she's doing. What's next for a legendary racer that panics at the sheer thought of getting back on a horse? She gets dragged to the local dive-bar by her best-friend Teddy, obviously. There's nothing better than a girl's night to forget your woes and have fun... until your childhood nemesis and brother's best friend swaggers in.The chemistry between Luke and Emmy is undeniable from their first scene together. The angst and tension is palpable between the pair as they have a battle of wit and banter. Luke loves nothing more than to get Emmy Ryder's blood pumping. He constantly provokes her in hopes of seeing the return of her razor-sharp tongue and feisty attitude. Author Lyla Sage done an amazing job establishing the beginning of the love/hate relationship between Luke and Emmy, and the progression in their relationship felt effortless and natural. Luke had me swooning and kicking my feet in the air.Branded as the town's "bad boy" and "ladies man" left Luke with a reputation he was no longer interested in. After being left the deed to the local-bar and an opportunity to truly call something his own, Luke worked hard to set himself straight and help his business thrive. Luke's family situation was a surprise and honestly tragic to read. I felt for the boy who was left to feel unwanted and undeserving of love and kindness. I'm so glad that he found the Ryder family who accepted Luke as one of their own, no questions asked. Luke is a top-tier book-boyfriend and is completely unproblematic which was refreshing to read. He's so kind and patient, and his devotion and care for Emmy and the other people in his life was heart-warming to read. I was so proud of Emmy’s journey in this book as she opened up about her ADHD diagnosis and the impact that has on her day-to-day life, and seeing the people around her accept her fully was truly beautiful to read. Emmy really goes on a journey in Done and Dusted as she discovers who and what she wants in her life, and I felt genuine pride in the end after all of the hard-work Emmy put in towards that conclusion.“It was weird, spending time with Brooks this way. I’d known him nearly my entire life, but I didn’t actually know him."The relationship growth between Emmy and Luke was written to perfection. It was a perfect balance of slow-burn and longing, and you really feel the development that they go through as they take the time to truly learn about one-another as adults and tackle the younger ideals that they were holding onto. Emmy and Luke found a home within each other and a safe place to learn and grow, and I really appreciate the ease in which the topic of consent and communication is approached by the author. Clear communication and consent within intimate scenes does not take away from a sexy build-up, and I’m glad to see this being more present within the Romance genre as a whole.Honestly my only issue with this book was Emmy's oldest brother, Gus. Gus is the best-friend of Luke and acts as the main source of conflict throughout the story. Gus is your typical, cliché "protective older brother" that tries to dictate who is "good enough" to be present in Emmy's life. This could be considered sweet if Emmy wasn't a 27/28 year old *grown* woman who is more than capable of making decisions for herself. When Luke and Emmy finally stopped fighting against their natural chemistry and got together, Emmy feared the reaction of Gus and asked for the relationship to be kept quiet until she was ready. As much as Luke didn't want to be a secret to the people he considered his family, he respected Emmy's choice and never once pushed her into a decision she wasn't ready to make. Gus as a character was really difficult to like, as opposed to Emmy's other brother Wes. Wes is an absolute sweetheart who respects Emmy's decisions as a grown-woman, and is happy to be a rock of constant support and care."Wes?" I called."Yeah?""You didn't ask why I came home.""I don't care why you're here, only that you are."When I tell you that I squealed when I learned that book two would centre around Wes and Ayla, whom we have yet to meet. Wes is a caretaker at heart, and I cannot wait to see his story unfold in Swift and Saddled upon its release next year.Done and Dusted was unputdownable and is almost *too* easy to read in one sitting whilst you ignore real life obligations. Such an incredible, swoon-worthy book that has left me excited for the continuation of this series.
5.0 out of 5 stars congratulations on this fantastic debut!!
Okay so this is the author’s debut and what an incredible story to start with.. I seen a video where she said ‘I just wanted a book that felt like sunshine’, well girl grab a wine and throw your feet up because mission accomplished!!I read some of the darkest, dirtiest stuff but this book was hot in its own right. Luke’s inner monologue and how he talks about her, like she’s the only thing he can see, and would ever want to see again. Some of what to expect;- Small town- Brothers best friend- Cowboy MMC/ barrel racer MFC- Reformer bad boy- Found familyOur two leads are Luke and Emmy.. let me just say I adored the dynamic, I loved that they hadn’t wanted each other their whole lives (don’t get me wrong I love a pining for each other too) but this was different and I was here for it. Luke is Emmy’s brothers best friend and they have never really liked each other, but he didn’t bully her, he didn’t see her as a sister and she didn’t swoon for him.Emmy left her home town to chase her dream, she is one of the best horse barrel racers there is and she has always loved to ride. She always wanted to move away from her home town not because of anything traumatic just because she wanted more. However her love for her family was greater and it kept her coming back to see them a few times a year. So when she has an accident that leads her to packing up her life and going back home the last person she expected to understand and help her..would of course been Luke Brooks, the bad boy that she didn’t necessarily like.Luke reformed bad boy known as a screw up to many but a friend to Gus (Emmy’s brother) the Ryder family (well most of them 🤭) saw something in Luke no one else did.He has never truly felt wanted or loved, so he lived he young years however he wanted without much care but one day that changed and he wanted to be more. So he now owns a bar, helps out at the ranch and teaches the kids how to ride. Emmy hasn’t ever been someone he’s thought about, he never looked at her in any particular way so what happens when she walks into his bar after all these years and can’t explain the reaction he’s having to her. This book isn’t angsty, it’s got little to no drama but what is does have is cute moments, an unexpected friendship, a fantastic way of showing ADHD and overcoming what life can throw at you. Oh add in an awesome best girl friend, some steam and them country vibes we love to see
3.0 out of 5 stars cute
Cute.. easy read small town cowboy romance brothers best friend with a nice amount of spice what more could you want
4.0 out of 5 stars Now I want to move to a ranch
Just loved this! My life in an alternate universe would be working on a ranch, being able to dive into this world was a dream. I loved the pace of this book - straight to the point and predictable in regard to the inevitable relationship, it was just such a good flow and uncomplicated romance. Way more raunchy than I was expecting, but I won’t complain! I ship Emmy & Luke 1000%. Perfect autumn read.
PERFECTION!!
4.5 ⭐️You guys, this book is such a feel good read 🤍This was my first cowboy romance and it did not disappoint! It's short and sweet and full of heart. It's a small town, brother's best friend, hate to love, steamy cowboy romance and it's lovely. It has a surprising amount of depth and I just love Emmy and Luke together. Watching their friendship, love, and trust in each other grow was adorable and the family dynamics were perfection!Shoutout to Teddy and Gus ( They gotta be the couple for book 3). The TENSION!!I'm looking forward to reading Swift and Saddled next year and I'll definitely be adding this to my physical bookshelf soon. It's a must read for romance lovers and a perfect intro to cowboy romances if you're new 😊
Loved it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5I don’t know how to begin this review other than saying this book felt like a cool vreeze in the summer. I loved it so much! I didn’t want to put it down, and when I had to because of work I tried to find little moments to read a little more.I liked the way mental health is represented, and there were some moments where I totally knew how Emmy was feeling. Her struggles felt real. And Luke… God, I love me a cowboy with a dirty mouth! And when I read that he was sort-of-kind-of based on Tim Riggins, that’s when I died and went to cowboy heaven 🖤Love love LOVE this book and I can’t wait to read more of the Rebel Blue Ranch stories!
Perfect cowboy romance
Done & Dusted has been on my TBR the instant I saw the cover.I was intrigued... I thought "Hmm, I've never read a cowboy book? This should be fun!" 🤠I underestimated this book so much. It was ADDITIVE and I couldn't stop reading. I was obsessed while reading!! I read 3/4 of the book in one sitting, and had to stop myself because I was getting too energized and it was almost 1 AM 😅The small town setting with cowboys + brother's best friend romance?? Y-E-S!The dual POV, the tension, the banter... honestly, I loved it all.But you know what I loved the most? No third-act breakup!!!!!It was so refreshing to have a decent ending to a book, without breakup drama.Emmy really got a beautiful conclusion to her story 🧡I cannot wait for the next book in this series! It's supposed to be 4 books apparently which I'm so happy about! The sequel is Swift and Saddled - which releases in March 2024, and follows the story of Wes and a new character Ada. (Now, lucky me, because I just got approved for the ARC! I'm SOOO excited and definitely will start it today 🙌)The third book is releasing during fall of 2024.Side note: After I finished the book, I went to Lyla's insta (she has a lot of great teaser contents!!) and she said in one of her videos that she wanted Done and Dusted to feel like sunshine when you read it. And it absolutely felt like that for me 🌞
