Prodigy: Slaves of Mars

Description:

Mark Millar's personal favourite creation, Edison Crane is a complex blend of Bruce Wayne, James Bond, Sherlock Holmes and Indiana Jones. He's the world's smartest, coolest man who stifles the boredom of his billionaire life by taking on mysteries no one else can possibly solve. But the murder of his father is his greatest adventure yet and reunites him with an older, smarter brother who went off-grid years ago and has been living on the streets ever since. How does this all connect to the secret space program and what has the planet Mars been planning for all of us? Collects Prodigy: Slaves of Mars #1-#5.

Review:

A real shame

Mark Millar is one of the main reasons I started reading comics, and based on this, could easily be part of the reason I stop!Luckily, a lot of his peers have managed to retain quality output, while plenty of new talent has emerged to keep me plugged in.This book, was dogcrap, just terrible. Like a Millar tribute band fed through AI with the least amount of energy possible.Mark's dive into pure sequelitis over the last decade or so was understandable given it's happened in movies/TVs in the same period, but for the most part it's resulted in creatively stagnant cash grabs.I wish Mark could have found a new direction at some point, like Ennis did with War books, it might have saved us fans from a lot of the dross served up recently. A twisted sense of loyalty led me to pick up Magic Order 4 along with this book and as I prepare to open it up, I'm full of nothing but dread.

Well worth your time.

Not quite as sharp as the first two volumes featuring Millar’s astute Edison Crane super-genius character. But it does retain the humor and action that characterizes the series.

Love Prodigy Series but didn’t love this one….

So I’ve been a fan of characters like Edison Crane for a long time. Tom Strong, Sherlock Holmes, Doc Savage, Mr. Fantastic, etc. But this story felt very forced and like we were along for a ride without anything to go on. To be honest, Edison had no impact on the story itself, neither did his brother. They were both along for the ride, and his father is as unlikable a character as I’ve ever seen. And the “twist ending” felt very unearned. Honestly this could have been great but was very lackluster.
