About the Author

Paul Scherz is a physicist/mechanical engineer who received his B.S. in physics from the University of Wisconsin. His area of interest in physics currently focuses on elementary particle interactions, or high energy physics, and he is working on a new theory on the photon problems with Nikolus Kauer (Ph.D. in high energy physics, Munich, Germany). Paul is an inventor/hobbyist in electronics, an area he grew to appreciate through his experience at the University’s Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics and the Department of Plasma Physics.

This book is insane! I need to have a proper look through it but I can say so far its unbelievable... the amount of knowlege in this book is second to none! This book would be perfect for anyone in any electronics field as it covers so much from basic components to schematics and how to design your own boards for your very own designs/projects,I also really like all the equations as I feel like im studying theorethical physics or something along those lines.... I'm about as far from sheldon cooper as can be but its nice to imagine 😂

Endlich mal ein Praktikerbuch mit gutem Theorieteil

Das Buch bietet sehr viele und detaillreiche Informationen, die mit zahlreichen Abbildungen, Zeichnungen und Tabellen ergänzt werden. Das hat mir gut gefallen.Zudem bietet es einen ausführlichen Theorieteil an, der aber für die praktische Arbeit mit den aufgezeigten Bauteilen und Schaltungen nicht unbedingt vorher gelesen werden muss. Mir hat der Theorieteil richtig gut gefallen. Er ist sehr ausführlich und verständlich geschrieben zumindest wenn man Mathekenntnisse aus der Analysis hat.Er erläutert viele Formeln und mathematische Zusammenhänge und zeigt die Berechnungsgrundlagen für Schaltungen mit Gleichspannung und auch mit harmonischen Schwingungen auf. Diese werden nicht einfach nur aufgereiht, sondern didaktisch sinnvoll von einfach nach schwer weitgehend erläutert und z.T. begründet. Zwar fehlen ausführliche mathematische Herleitungen aber mit dem Aufbau des Buches konnte ich sie weitgehend selber herleiten. Zudem werden die Gleichungen/Formeln mit Beispielen und Übungsaufgaben inklusive Lösungen veranschaulicht. Im Theorieteil werden auch die kompexen Zahlen eingeführt und deren Vorteile bei der Berechnung von harmonischen Schwingungen gut erläutert. Der Theorieteil gipfelt schließlich in der Schaltungserweiterung auf nicht harmonische Schwingungen mittels Fouriertransformation.Von den ca. 1000 (!) Seiten des Buches nimmt der Theorieteil ein Viertel (also etwa 250 Seiten) ein und konnte damit auch entsprechend ausführlich sein. Die relevanten Gleichungen kommen dann alle auch im praktischen Teil (Rest des Buches) vor, werden da aber nicht mehr näher begründet.Alles in allem ein hervorragendes Buch, dass zudem noch für seinen Umfang (1000 Seiten geballter Information) sehr günstig ist. Gerne hätte ich es in gebundener Form (mit entsprechendem Aufpreis) erworben, was aber nicht angeboten wird. Dennoch scheint auch die vorliegende Bindung recht robust zu sein. Ich hatte es im Urlaub mit und häufig transportiert. Die Bindung hat sowohl das intensive Lesen als auch die Transporte problemlos überstanden.Ich kann es jedem Elektronik-Interessierten, der sich nicht vor der englischen Sprache fürchtet, empfehlen.

Fantastic book, can't recommend it enough. Inviting enough for a total beginner, yet dense enough to be a useful resource for much more advanced techs and hobbyists. Sure you can find most of this information online, but for immediate recall having a physical copy of all of it compiled into one place is absolutely worth every penny. Bust out a pad of sticky notes and make little tabs off the pages for all immediately relevant topics/information.
