Detailed drawings for tiling, slating and other roof coverings are included, with fixing requirements revised to BS 5534:2014. Information on lead substitutes and roofing putties is also provided. Design of warm and cold roofs is fully covered, including ventilation and insulation requirements. The fifth edition also includes new chapters on engineered timber roofing components, solar panel fixing and outbuilding roofs.

Review

"The revised fifth edition of Goss's Roofing Ready Reckoner provides much needed practical guidance on the timberwork supporting tile and slate roofs. The book will be of assistance to both carpenters and tilers in providing guidance to the latest standards and new products.... It is recommended that a copy is available on site to carpenters and tilers, and kept in the van or tool bag."

There are hundreds of pictures and clear explanations of the angles and best approach. Lifetime of experience is condensed in one book, so highly recommended for any DIY enthusiast too.

This was a gift for my partner and he said it was exactly what he wanted for his work, so well received present and full of useful information.

The most updated version of a manual that's been around for years - incredibly thorough as always, in keeping with current measurements and practices. Layout is exactly what it needs to be - simple and informative. A good manual that's an ideal reference to look towards, contains probably the answer you're going to need as it covers so much from correct joinery to decisions for roofing materials and also a decent level of 'why' explanations to actually learns something too.The new additions include installation of solar panels and a suppliers list in the back that is up to date with addresses as of 2016 - find this really useful as they've been researched and proven rather than trusting a google search.Overall, 'thorough' is a good word for it and it's well laid out, small enough to live in a work bag, as a certain reference to always have rather than trawling through a google search when you've forgotten an answer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate, fast and almost idiot proff.

The same as another chap reviewed, 30 years ago I got the blue cover version and wore that out, 15 years ago I got the orange cover one and just now I got it for Kindle/my phone. It's paid for itself already. Fantastic book. I'm getting a bit old for roofing now though, it's fair to say this version will out last me.
