Alex Quigley is Head of Content and Engagement at the national educational charity, the Education Endowment Foundation, UK. This is a fantastic read. Pupils don't learn everything they are taught, but why? Quigley explains some of the main barriers to learning in a research-driven but practical book. The 'what to do about it' sections are essential reading for leaders and teachers. Highly recommend.

Fantastic - it’s full of useful knowledge

An excellent explanation of 8 reasons why children can find it difficult to remember what they are taught. Importantly, guidance is also given for ways in which these difficulties can be mitigated. As a teacher who works with dyslexic children and others with weak working memory, I found the tips for classroom teaching to support this area particularly useful.
Insightful re: the future of education
The book, though brief, contains valuable insights on the future direction of education in the USA.
