Brutally honest, convicting, and powerful
Wow! I honestly don't know where to begin with the positive things about this book. Even though I have been a Christian for quite a while now, this book really put me through the wringer. It is one of the most powerful and convicting books I have read in a really long time. I could relate to so many of Dr. Hunter's struggles. I so appeciate his transparency and honesty. He has screwed up big time (as we all have) and isn't afraid to admit it. This book covers a wide range of topics including hyprocracy, regret, discouragement, resentment, and others. If you don't like Christian books that get in your business, then stay far away from this one. Dr. Hunter gets in your business and doesn't apologize for it.My heart broke as I read about the trauma Dr. Hunter experienced in junior high and the lasting damage it did. I could definitely relate because junior high was hell for me as well. There was a group of girls who used to sit in a circle around me and call me names, laugh at me, and make fun of me. I also had a girl who threatened to beat me up every day after school, I had a girl punch me in the face and break my glasses, I had my books knocked out of my hands every single day, I was shoved into walls, had rumors spread about me throughout the entire school, I was teased and bullied on a daily basis. I never stood up for myself and I never told anyone. To this day, my parents don't know how bad it really was for me. I'm now in my 30s, but even so, the scars are still there.This book probes into many different areas. Dr. Hunter speaks with great courage and insight on many different topics including discouragement, resentment, regret, hypocrisy, shame and many others. He isn't afraid to say things that could be controversial or hard to hear. But he speaks the truth in love and is firmly grounded in the Scriptures.One of the most convicting exercises in this book is the Make Believers Checklist. There are a series of questions and you answer true or false for each one. I completely failed this test. Not only does Dr. Hunter expose why and how we hide and pretend, he tells you how to stop. This is a book that you will want to read with a pen or highlighter in hand. There is so much insight and wisdom in here.If you are looking for a book that will break and humble you, this is it. This book will make you see things in a new way and force you to take a hard look inside. The results may not be pretty, but it's necessary. This book breaks you down and then uses practical stories, insight, and the truth of God's Word to restore you again. I definitely intend to read this book through a second time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to jumpstart their Christian growth or to get out of a rut. Thank you Dr. Hunter for such an insightful, convicting, thought-provoking book. This is a book that will stay in your heart and mind long after the last page is turned.
Amazing book!
This book applies to every Christian desiring a closer, authentic relationship with God. It reveals hidden sin that exists in each person's life. I had to go back a few times and ask Jesus to open my eyes. Amazing book! Love the prayers at the end of each chapter too-made it very personal.

An eye opening book into what being Christ like means. I'm going to read this over and over again. Amen.
