I bought this book on a whim - found out about it because I follow the author on Instagram (I’m a fan of his art) and I was curious about it but never enough to actually get the book. I stumbled upon it at a bookstore, flipped through it a little bit and thought it looked cute - came back home and found it on Bolo for half the price so I decided to go for it. I have zero regrets. The art throughout is really beautiful but it’s the storyline what captured me. You could say it’s a little corny, but corny can be a great thing. Corny is good for the soul sometimes. It’s the story of one man living through the pandemic but it’s actually the story of all of us living through the pandemic. In a sense, it makes you feel less alone by making you aware you are part of a collective experience. It’s an uplifting “we’re all in this together” book. All in all, beautiful drawings and beautiful message.

Purchased this book after meeting the author at a market where he was selling his prints. He is an immensely talented artist. We spoke about grandfather, how the idea for the book evolved and the "storm" that is Covid 19. The illustrations are beautiful and so detailed. The book captures the rollercoaster of emotions that many have felt at this time. I don't know if this will change with subsequent prints of this book, but the quality of the paper on which the book is printed is so amazing.

I’m so thrilled with this book, based around covid but not at the same time. Very subtle observation about life. For me it’s the drawings and pen marks are out of this world, every picture has something different you notice each time you look.

Together is a beautifully illustrated tale about a man and his dog as they support each other through challenging times; a reflection on the unprecedented year of 2020, which affected everyone in ways we never imagined.2020 was a year of turbulence, full of uncertainty as we were thrust into unknown territory and had our lives turned upside down. Together is a moving book with an important message that we must persist to navigate through tough times, even though it is arduous, for the storm will pass and brighter days will emerge.The personal inspiration behind the story is what makes it special. Based on the Hawker’s grandad, creating the book helped him heal and we can do this too, both individually and as a society. The dog highlights how animals have been a great support to many in these isolating times, allowing us to laugh and cry without the fear of being judged, and never abandoning us. The love of an animal is eternal.Hawker’s meticulously detailed pen drawings accompanied by the poetic words, make this a compelling and moving book, and show that we are stronger when we face challenges together.This would make a great gift for anyone as it is a powerful and meaningful read, and gives us the opportunity to reconnect with those who we’ve been apart from, and provides a moment to learn about empathy, sacrifice and love.

What a beautiful book - it moved me to tears! The stunning artwork and emotive text are just brilliant, and capture what we have all experienced over the last year or so during the pandemic. Really hits a nerve! I think everyone will relate to some element of this book and its a gorgeous thing to own or gift. Delighted and hope Hawker and Laidlaw collaborate again in the future.

This book works on so many different levels. Guided by a man and his dog it reflects the times we have all been through in the broadest sense, while the detail in some of the most intricate drawings reflects the artist's sense of humour and his empathy for people. It is a masterpiece.

Had been waiting for this for some time - having followed Adam’s work for a few years now and his stunning sketching style and illustrations - it’s been nice to see it tied together through a story and a lovely metaphorical narrative for something everyone’s been going through.If you like sketching or drawing then this book and his work will certainly inspire to pick up a pen again and get back to drawing.
