A good up to date review of the Alfa Romeo, at this price it's very good. Certain areas could be more detailed but to be fair it covers all you really need to know at this price point.

「革新の１世紀」の副題を持つ本書は、独Heel Verlag社が刊行した「Alfa Romeo - Automobilfaszination seit 1910」の英国版である。アルファ・ロメオ創立100周年に合わせた企画で、著者（なぜか本書にはクレジットがない）は、アルファ・エンスージアストのクリスティアン・ショーエン（Christian Schoen）。独語／英語版の違いは表紙と原語のみで、内容は共通。ブランドの創設から現在までのタイムラインに沿って、各年代のモデルがほぼ偏りなく紹介されている。白地の本文ページの合間に薄いグレー地でコラムページが設けられており、そこでは「アルファをめぐる人物名鑑」や「モータスポーツとの関わり」などが語られる。ヴィットリオ・ヤーノなどの伝説的な設計者に比べれば、モータースポーツ関連の話はごくあっさりとしているが、あのアウトデルタを率いたカルロ・キティの紹介コラムももちろんある。付け足しというか、日産とのジョイントヴェチャーである「ARNA」のコラムもちゃんとある。写真はアルファ側から提供されたオフィシャルフォトが主体で、さほど珍しいショットは載っていない。といっても戦前モデルの写真は紹介される機会が少ないだけに、やはり貴重。戦前戦後の各モデルはほぼ漏れなく紹介されているのだが、紙幅の制限もあり、ダイジェスト的な印象は否めない。モデルごとにもっと詳しい話が読みたい向きは、他の専門書を求めるべきだろう。そうしたマニアックな書籍がきちんと揃うところが、アルファのアルファたる所以だ。本書を眺めて改めて実感するのは、これほど強いアイコンを持つブランドでも、今の時代に生き残るのは容易でないという現実の厳しさ。ほんの十年ほど前に、このメーカーが100周年を僅か２つの生産モデルで祝うことになるとは、おそらく誰も想像できなかったことだろう。かつてのオーナーのひとりとしては、それが60年代のスピリットを宿すライトウェイトモデルであることだけが救いと感じる。8Cコンペティツィオーネもブレラももちろん美しいけれど、やはりアルファは「ジュリア系列に限る」と思うのである。
