About the Author

Albert Kiefer is a freelance concept artist from the Netherlands. As a professional digital artist, Albert began to miss more traditional art forms and returned to his love for sketching, which led to his popular Instagram page, Housesketcher, and to teaching his techniques for expressive sketching in his wildly popular Domestika class, “Expressive Architectural Sketching with Colored Markers.” His work is featured in two books by French publisher ELYTIS: Au Japon!, a collection of sketches of Japanese buildings, and Harley Davidson Sketchbook.

This is an excellent book. Very detailed and a lot of really useful information. It has inspired me to try markers which I have my never used before. The quality of the print is very high. The images of his sketches are superb. The step by step projects are easy to follow. I’m really happy to have bought this book.

Bought this for my daughter and she loves it. The graphics are similar to some of the Anime she likes and also some of the Nintendo games e.g. Prof Layton. The examples are clearly set out and provide a basis for working your own ideas.

This is an excellent and informative sketching resource and I’m thoroughly enjoying every page. Have managed to loosen off my tendency for perfection for a much more adjoining and fun style. Dropped one star due to print errors (some marker numbers are wrong) and because the chosen coated paper stock is not the right choice for this type of book (colours represent differently in print anyway but this paper makes them look way off). Otherwise I would highly recommend.

I am enjoying this book and style of art so much. Great instructions and examples that produce wonderful results. I took Albert Kiefer’s domestika class and enjoyed that too. If you have an interest in sketching this book is well worth buying, you certainly won’t be disappointed.

The layout of this book is exceptional. The graphics illustrator has done an excellent job walking you through his process while encouraging and teaching you not just the concept but also the basics of this graphic design art form. His style is encouraging, drawing you into the frame helping you to look beyond the static building to help it come to life. Very beginner friendly.

Tolles Buch, gute Ergänzung zum Domestikakurs des Autors

Das Buch hat ein sehr schönes Format. Etwas breiter als DIN A4 mit tollen Zeichnungen.In der ersten Hälfte bespricht der Autor Grundlagen zu verwendeten Materialien und Zeichentechniken. Danach geht auf auf seine spezielle Zeichentechnik ein. In der zweiten Hälfte zeigt er Schritt für Schritt an verschiedenen Häusern seine Art Häuser zu skizzieren und zu kolorieren. Ich habe mir das Buch als Ergänzung zu seinem Domestika Kurs gekauft und bin sehr glücklich damit. Aber auch ohne den Online Kurs ist es sehr empfehlenswert. Man erreicht mit der lockeren Finelinerzeichnung und der schnellen Koloration mit Markern sehr schnell gute Ergebnisse. Das Buch eignet sich für Urban Sketchers aber auch für Couch Potatoes, die nach Fotos zeichnen. Empfehlenswert.
