A 1980s Childhood: From He-Man to Shell Suits

Description:

Do you remember trying to solve the Rubik's cube whilst dressed in your He-Man pyjamas? Did you try to make 'cool' sound effects with your mouth like Jones from Police Academy? Or maybe you swooned over Scott and Charlene's (aka Jason and Kylie's) wedding of the year? If that sounds like you, there's no mistaking you were a child of the eighties. Rev up your DeLorean, switch on the Flux Capacitor and take a cruise back throguh the decade that made you the person you are today. This amusing and entertaining collection of reminiscences will job the memories of all who grew up in the same decade where greed was good, mullets were cool and white dog poo littered the streets.

The experiences lovingly detailed on these pages bring back so many memories. It could have been written about me or so many of us of a similar age.The section on riding a grifter made me laugh out loud in public. The christmas morning brought a tear of familiarity.Thank you Michael for sharing your memories and helping me to remember mine.

This a fun nostalgic book for those who were children of the 80’s. However not all the facts are correct, a few were way off. The chapters are very long, in the case of “films” it was describing the entire plot for each rather than the authors experience. Overall it is an enjoyable read and brought back good memories.

A great light hearted look back at the 80's. As a Mum of a child born in 1981 I went through all the various fads for kids because my child played with them , and badgered me to buy them! A great read for eighties kids and their 80's parents, a chance to reminisce together and relive those innocent days in the 80's where modern technology was moving at a fast pace but the 70's still played a part in the pattern of life . I enjoyed this book it brought back lots of good memories of a time that feels like yesterday but was in fact 40 years ago!

4.0 out of 5 stars 80's Memories

b. · 10 November 2012

This is a good read with some good chuckles, for me personally I didn't get the 'oh, yeah' moment much as I still have a crystal clear memory of the decade and I think it would be better aimed at slightly younger people than me (I'm 40), who would have only a vague recollection as they were still quite young at the time. All the same it was entertainingly written and personal enough to be more than just a factual book.

A very interesting book
