Molecular Basis Of Human Nutrition (Lifelines Series)

Description:

Molecular Basis of Human Nutrition focuses on the metabolic basis of human nutrition, detailing recent knowledge and research in this field. It explains the biochemical functions of the essential nutrients and the physiological consequences of deficient and excessive intakes. These are described within the context of normal human diets and requirements for health. Although this book is about human nutrition, in some instances there are comparisons with and examples of other mammalian species to facilitate understanding of the principles. Molecular Basis of Human Nutrition is the only book to cover this particular subject and will prove very popular with both students and lecturers alike.

Review

'This title is excellent and should be very attractive to both students and teaching staff.' - John Mathers, School of Biological Sciences, University of Newcastle, UK 'There is a genuine shortage of good introductory texts in nutrition which deal with cellular and metabolic aspects and this book would definitely fill that gap. A much needed book.' - Joe Millward, School of Biological Sciences, University of Surrey, UK

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than others

I purchased this book after finding I just didn't 'get along' with the other books on my reading list, for an introduction to human nutrition this really is the book to have. It is much easier to read and understand and memorise the data than other books, which seem to trawl out the same information over pages and pages without diagrams and colour. I blame this book for me achieving the best mark in both my biochem and my human nutrition exams. I used it as a key text but also as a revision tool. It really is the best first year book I purchased.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only book you need!

This text was purchased for me by a relative as it was not on my list of core texts to buy, but I'm so glad I had it! It was clear concise information on the biochemistry being all the macro-nutrients, and short detailed paragraphs on deficiency and toxicity. I used this book to revise for exams, but I now use it when I'm writing a presentation to the public, because it simplifies that information well. It is written in simple terminology so the lay person would understand it. I think anyone with an interest in nutrition would get something out of this book.
