Clear, concise and well balanced

When I first opened up the packaging this book came in, I groaned at the heft/size of this book; probably because I have been subjected to FAR too many books penned by loquacious or prolix authors. I set the book aside, fearing the miserable hours I would have to spend slogging through unintelligible prose. That was two days ago.Over the past two days, I have covered about 10% of the book in detail and I am very happy to report that my initial fears were completely unfounded. The book exhibits a great deal of forethought and is highly readable. The writing is clear, concise and well balanced. It is neither terse nor prolix. The book is well-structured for either linear consumption or reference purposes. The author makes excellent use of pedagogical techniques in the structuring of each chapter, especially with regard to the closed-loop exercises which tie back to the purposes identified in the beginning of each chapter. Examples cited in the book are clear and relevant.To a certain extent, I agree with the one reviewer who found fault with the visual design of the textual elements found in this book. The author clearly describes his reasoning for using capitalization and italics in section 2.3 TEXT CONVENTIONS of the book, however, it seems there is a bit of laxity with respect to the usage of these conventions. Unlike the other reviewer, however, I do not find the unusual aesthetics to be a burden upon the reader. Its contents appear to be technically sound and its presentation is exemplary of the kind of technical writing I expect from an intelligent, thoughtful, caring human being.

I have found it to be clear and concise, filled with great advice and words of wisdom from experience (not just academia).
