This is a different approach to transport processes.
I've taught a course for many years dealing with fluid flow, heat transfer, and mass transfer in biological systems, and was never really happy with conventional texts. They were too mathematical; they were not related to biological systems in the broadest sense; they didn't consider design; they didn't contain enough concrete information. I wanted a text that would use a systems approach, would emphasize design processes, would be as clearly written as possible, would contain many solved examples, would treat biological applications intrinsically rather than as an afterthought, and would contain many tables with enough properties values that readers would not need to go elsewhere except for very highly specialized problems. And, lastly, I wanted an attractive text that is easily perused. I think I have succeeded in most of these.

This text is meant to be an introductory book on transport processes in biological systems. More specialized and mathematical books can be read after this one, if need be. But, for the practicing engineer who must depend on one book to lead to many of the answers in fluid flow, heat transfer, or mass transfer, I think this book will do the job.

An excellent book. It is very unique approach. It allows one to take a systems approach to the Biological functions. We use it as a resource in predicting reactions to outside stimuli on the human respiratory system.Dr. Johnson is a thorough and excellent communicator.
