Accessible, Demystifying, Useful Book for the Practical Application of Yoga to Life
This book is fantastic! It is full of wisdom. It takes you on a journey of the history and philosophy of yoga, then guides you into the anatomy, the practice and ends with a wealth of great info on becoming the teacher. He sets a strong foundation for what the practice of yoga is truly about. Ryan Glidden does an excellent job of helping you understand the richness, depth of yoga and all it has to offer those on the path of growth. Yoga philosophy has a lot of complex, often paradoxical concepts, and I found that Glidden demystifies these helping to bring clarity, understanding, and application. He offers great insight into the various tools and practices of yoga, hence the "deepening your practice" title. These tools and practices are well integrated into this book. What I appreciated the most was how he illustrated and unified the physical, mental and spiritual practices of yoga. He does not omit the deeply spiritual aspect of yoga and he makes this part of the book very clear. One example of this, in the chakras section of the book, he created a chart system that illustrates the chakra, the body connection, the areas for development, physical issues, emotional issues. He then offers asana and exercises that can help support that chakra. One can feel that Glidden is a student and teacher of this practice who has reverence for the study and the application. This is a rare find. This book is a must-have manual for students and teachers, lovers of yoga.

Deepening Your Practice takes you on a yoga journey by diving into the foundations of yoga... where it began and uncovering the philosophical wisdom that can sometimes be hard to grasp by laying it out to the reader in a clear, methodical way.For yoga teachers, this books hits it all! With an depth anatomy section covering all the systems, learning how breath works, and visually displaying asanas (poses) as a reference in the back of the book.I appreciated the chapter on taking yourself from a teacher to a business owner!I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to deepen their yoga practice, to Teacher Training programs looking for a foundation book that can light the way for your students!
A Must Have Book For Yogis
Deepening Your Practice is a wonderful addition to my library! It touches on all aspects of Yoga- history, philosophies, anatomy, poses, creating sequences, owning a yoga studio and so much more! This book is an easy and enjoyable read. I used this book as a reference during Yoga Teacher Training and I learned a lot from Ryan’s writing and clear explanations of the deep philosophical ideas and different writings about yoga. This book is a must read for a new yoga teacher or someone interested in deepening their own practice.
