Great characters, and never guessed the plot. Very twisty turny. But terrific, I couldn't put it down.
4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, heartwarming, intelligent mystery
Richard Osman returns with a brand-new sleuthing adventure in We Solve Murders. The first in a new series, it features Steve, a former police officer turned private investigator, his daughter in law Amy (a body guard) and famous slightly eccentric writer Rosie. This unlikely trio set off to solve several murders with hilarious consequences along the way.I really enjoyed this book although I couldn’t help comparing it to the Thursday murder club! It’s fast paced and kept me guessing until the end. The characters took a while to develop but in the end I loved them all! I loved the humour and genuinely laughed out loud in places! You do have to suspend reality a bit when you read, I thought a lot of the plot was reliant on coincidences but for me that’s what reading is all about…escapism 😊Overall a delightful, intelligent mystery full of heart and surprises. Perfect for fans of British whodunits, especially those who enjoy crime-solving with a side of humour!
5.0 out of 5 stars As much fun as I hoped
Amy is a personal protection operative - a bodyguard. Her current assignment is Rosie D'Antonio, a best-selling novelist. Rosie has angered a powerful Russian by insulting him in a novel, and Amy is protecting her from threatened assassination attempts. She finds frequent opportunities to phone Steve, her ex-cop father-in-law who lives in the New Forest. Steve still suffers from the sudden death of his wife, and has built himself a small, secure, unadventurous life in his little village. But when Amy's life is threatened (beyond the threats she faces on the course of her work, which he knows she can handle easily), Steve fears he may need to step outside his comfort zone.Osman established a nice little franchise with The Thursday Murder Club, about four pensioners who investigate cold cases. After four successful novels in that series (and more to come), here is the first in a new franchise. And it's as compelling as its older sibling. It doesn't have quite the same kind heart of pensioner camaraderie, but the principal characters have their own warmth, co-dependence, and depths to be discovered. All are well-designed and likeable, as are the supporting characters, even the baddies. The plot is effortlessly convoluted, and the locations, while still including rural England, include are much more far-flung and exotic. An easy and very enjoyable read.
5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It's amazing 😍
Oh behave Richard Osman....it's gardening season and I should be busy with my pea shoots and nettle cordial, not sitting inside devouring this very addictive and very brilliant novel!I absolutely loved the story of Amy, Rosie and Steve...they're just wonderful! And I always enjoy a thriller where the protagonist/s is/are being chased relentlessly around the world, but the baddies are always just one step behind.Your Thursday Murder Club was an excellent read, and this new series had a lot to live up to, but I have to say, you've certainly succeeded in keeping the reader entertained from start to finish.Steve is adorable and so is Trouble, and every aspect of the book is truly marvellous and hilarious. I can't wait for the next installment.Five stars!
5.0 out of 5 stars Best ever

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit of a mess
Oh I really wanted to like this one more than I did. The first in a new series from Osman after his very successful, and indeed very enjoyable Thursday Murder Club series. I feel We Solve Murders suffers the same issues as the first Murder Club book had, perhaps more so.The Thursday Murder Club book one felt a little messy, too complicated, uneven in tone and not very well rounded characters. The subsequent books I found absolutely charming with much more streamlined lined stories, fantastically fleshed out characters and a confidence in the writing that ironed out the unevenness of the first. I hope that will be the case here. The story of We Solve Murders feels overly complicated for the light hearted tone of the book. There’s way too many characters and the main characters who we are meeting for the first time suffer as a consequence. A daughter in law and father in law are the central characters and neither are that interesting.Amy the daughter in law comes across as an extremely bland and uninteresting character to hang the book on. Steve, the father in law feels like an extra from The Thursday Murder Club, a character that didn’t quite make the cut.The chapters are very short(some only a page long)and it’s to the detriment of the book. I couldn’t connect with the characters as it was like now you see them now you don’t as they dipped in and out of the story. We spend a couple of pages in one part of the world and suddenly we are somewhere else on the planet for a few minutes.Look it’s an awful lot of moaning from me about it but there is enough there to make this an enjoyable series and I have confidence Mr Osman will deliver. It just felt like he tried to throw the kitchen sink at this new series opener and unfortunately it’s a case of less is more. More to just way too much.I’m giving this three stars as I do have high hopes for the series and I think we will eventually see good books in it but for me We Solve Murders was a hugely underwhelming start.
tremendous

I am totally addicted. Funny, witty, very tongue in cheek, extremely intriguing plot - escapism at its best
Wonderful!!
The delivery was fast ,the copy arrived in great condition. Book itself is wonderful to read. Entertaining. Though it is not a sinister ,dark book as it tries to be. There is a cozy vibe to this. Great characters..
Muitos personagens, achei complicado
Não achei tão bom como os outros livros anteriores.
Brilliant!
This series promises to be just as entertaining as the last one for this author! He has an incredible way of making murder and mayhem somehow amusing and entertaining. The characters are so vividly written that I can see and hear them in my mind at first meeting. This author is truly gifted. Never a dull moment.
A great new team in the comedy-murder-mystery genre!
I like murder mysteries with lots of characters who are interesting, and this has that. I also liked that the author was not secretive - he gave out information fast and free - and yet kept me guessing till the end. It was faster and “racier” than The Thursday Murder Club, but equally fun. The characters are a great start. As with TTMC, I know we’ll grow to love them more as the series develops. Thanks Richard for another bit of magic (from your description of what a good book is)!
