Such a lovely book! The story woven around Eid Day is both heartwarming and engaging. It’s a perfect way to teach kids about the joy and meaning of Eid in a fun, relatable way. The illustrations are vibrant, and the message is beautiful. Great quality and a wonderful addition to any child’s bookshelf!

4.0 out of 5 stars Spoiler-free: Fun lift the flaps book with a pop up surprise, but not really much to do with Eid...

S. · 20 March 2025

This is a fun pop-up book following The Hungry Caterpillar as it enjoys the Eid festivities. The Hungry Caterpillar is ready to enjoy Eid, but who is hiding behind the curtains? Hungry Catterpillar is about to put the decorations up, but who is behind the lantern? The hardback is filled with thick board book pages with some fun flaps to lift and a extra pop-up surprise at the end. The pages are all glossy and have rounded edges too.The Hungry Caterpillar is celebrating Eid, but while it puts the decorations up and gets the food ready there are some other creatures around to spot under the flaps. The book is filled with perfect and fun rhyming throughout and I like how fun everything looks with the Hungry Caterpillar visible as well as some other creatures hidden behind the flaps. The book itself briefly touches on the Eid festivities with the Very Hungry Caterpillar setting up the decorations, mentions of helping others and the food being ready to eat, however there's really nothing tying the Very Hungry Caterpillar's character to the Eid celebrations, other than the fact it's kind of there. The illustrations are all very fun, as you would expect from a Very Hungry Caterpillar book. I like the way all the creatures look and the simple but fun and colourful way everything on the pages looks, especially the food and plants. The flaps are fun to open up to see what is visible on each page, however I do feel that the Eid aspect of the story could have been made better, such as maybe having the Very Hungry Catterpillar waiting to eat during Ramadan(he's hungry after all) and having to wait constantly and tucking in at the end, rather than just random mentions of Eid and the caterpillar just being there (poor thing never gets to eat anything at all in this book!).Overall it's a fun though quite short, lift-the-flaps book with a nice message about celebrating Eid. While I do like the idea of The Very Hungry Caterpillar being able to celebrate different religious festivals and helping to teach children the very basics of these, I just personally feel it could have had a bit more about Eid, perhaps helping to teach kids who don't know about this religious festival, rather than the cateripllar just being there and a message of happy Eid at the end. But apart from that it's still a basic but fun book, especially for The Very Hungry Caterpillar fans.

I have very strong memories of reading the hungry caterpillar book when I was a kid and I love that there's now an Eid book that incorporates this and you can read to your child. It's lovely and colourful and really straightforward to go through and be educational at the same time.

My 3 year old is crazy about the Very Hungry Caterpillar. He really loved the book on Eid. The story is very short but worth £7 I paid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is this book about Eid?

D.H. · 6 March 2025

I was excited to see the hungry caterpillar series feature a book about Eid. But all that excitement fizzled upon reading the book. Under the flaps you'll find a fluttering luna moth, a beautiful butterfly, a curious bird and a hovering dragonfly. The book could be about anything really if it wasn't for the "Eid Mubarak" in the end. Do not recommend.
