5.0 out of 5 stars Ancient buddhist wisdom that is as relevant today as ever

n. · 27 February 2017

(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } My husband recommended this book to me after reading an article in the Guardian Newspaper about how successful and highly rated this book has been and he knows how much I enjoy books of this kind.I bought the kindle version and also the narration addition. This is the first time I have tried out the narration option and it is wonderful. I can listen to this while meditating or just being calm and enjoying listening to it. I found it to be easy to understand, very insightful and calming.I like the style of writing and the book is packed full of inspiration, wise words, common sense and described as Ancient Buddhist philosophy for the modern age. There are lots of shared insightful practised solutions. This is a great book to have handy for when you are having difficulty and wanting an answer to some common problems we all face. I think in this fast paced world we all need to slow down and sometimes life is just so fast and hectic we miss all the good things. The simple things in life can be easily overlooked and it is a shame.I will dip in and out of this book as I love each and every page. It can be read as a book or you could easily select random parts of the book and focus on that part only.Like other books that focus on spirituality and wellness, this book mentions the importance of having a good relationship with others as well as loving ourselves and being kind to ourselves as well as others. It is a truly special book and when the printed versions become available I will buy a copy for my daughter and son as this is one book that I feel they could benefit from and enjoy.I would highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A present for her, SHE absolutely loved it (so I read it myself - highly recommended, rich resource of wisdom for life)

c. · 6 April 2017

"Is it the world that's busy or is it my mind?" A fantastic book with a lot of (not new, rather old, Buddhist times) wisdom. To be honest, I first bought this book in an airport for my wife as a little gift. She absolutely loved it and we often talked about one or the other points that this book has raised for her. So I was intrigued enough and read it myself. The style and way of writing fits the purpose - it is easy to read. No complex scientific explanations, this is more about the small things in life, the things that matter, the things that make happy. In our fast paced world it is so essential to sometimes pause, calm down, literally sit down and take a quite minute (or longer). I found this book massively helpful. You can take the lessons to work, into your family, into any relationship, basically into your life.Give this book a chance and you won't be disappointed. You won't have to read it in one go - it is more a rich resource you can tap in and out as you please (or as you need it!).Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing despite the pretty cover

D.6. · 5 October 2025

I found this book disappointing. It almost promises a lot from its cover title but I found the content too flimsy and general. It could be nice for someone as a dip in light weight read but it is too general in its approach.
