5.0 out of 5 stars Summarizes the PhD in easy context

N. · 5 November 2018

Small, pocket book. It’s easy to read and understand.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok if you already know where you're going

B. · 21 May 2015

This book is ok. It would be useful as reassurance for someone who already has an idea for a doctoral thesis and just needs to know how to get started. However, despite the contents page saying differently there is very very little written about writing a PhD proposal. This book is more for people in the first year of their PhD to help mapping out the next 3-5 years, rather than those of us in the pre-application stage. It did have some useful information about what was expected in terms of publication while you are studying though. Going to try the Palgrave Postgraduate Handbook instead and see if that's any more help.

Good book if your just starting a phd. I bought this when I transfered from year 2 MA to PhD so most of the content wasn't relevant to me as I had done it. Definitely worth the money for someone starting out
