Amazingly Helpful Book
Great book. Packed with information. Extremely helpful for those who are grieving. I found that this book described perfectly and helped me to realize that what I was experiencing and feeling was normal. I felt heard and seen. A+++++
A DEEPER EXPLORATION OF GRIEVING.
Neuroscientist and clinical psychologist Mary-Frances O'Connor , the author of the Grieving Brain, continues her quest to better understand and delineate the process of grieving -- what it is, why it is so painful, and the physiological origins of its sometimes perplexing symptoms. This time she marries her close scrutiny of scientific literature with her all-too-human experiences, such as her struggle with multiple sclerosis, her mother's dying, and the her grasp of the temptation to return to addictive behaviors to escape the pain brought on by intimate loss. In her pursuit, she pries open the Pandora's box of this universal and often vexing phenomenon that deeply affects not only a griever's emotions, or rational thinking, but also their entire brain and body and their complex neurological responses to the stress and trauma of loss. All assertions are documented with citations for follow-up. Readers navigating grief will finally feel that at last someone takes grieving seriously and understands what they are going through. My only quibble is the book's hefty pricetag that could turn off potential book buyers.
