5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read!
A unique insight into a world we can only imagine, and bringing it into the real world so as to see that it's not so different to ours after all. A great read from a lovely, glamorous, but honest and down to earth woman.
4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, funny and inspiring
If you have ever wanted to know what its like to be married to a Rock Star, this is the book for you.I really enjoyed this book in ways that surprised me. It was funny, very descriptive and gave me a real insight into life in those days.Gosh what a lot of crazy fun she (and the Stones) had, but wow lots of awful downsides too. Its amazing what the human body can go through drink and drugs wise too! I thought I used to party hard! After I put the book down, (I read the whole thing in a few days staying up late!) I felt like I really knew Jo and can sense what she is like. The book is very well written, in an honest and friendly way. I know sometimes celebs get ghost writers to write their books but I would be surprised if she did get much help with it.I actually want to get my mum a copy of this because she loved the stones, and probably envied Jo and all the other rock wives throughout the years. This book really made me aware of what we all know to be true but sometimes forget: that money can't buy a perfect life and guarantee lasting relationships and happiness. Stars and wealthy people still have times where things are just so hard and awful. They all are just like us really but get to travel in nicer cars and planes, live in bigger houses and have better clothes. But they still go through big ups and downs.I really enjoyed reading this book. It was so insightful, raw, honest and inspiring. Jo hasn't had life so easy all the time. I Love how she is so into organics and sustainable living and she's doing a lot of good in the world now with her platform. I think if anyone is going through a rough patch out there, perhaps you have broken up with your husband then you might find solace in this book to help you find inspiration to really get to know yourself and to realise its not the end, it's the beginning! You can change the future in this instant!I know if I ever saw Jo in the street, I could go up and say hi. She just seems like that kind of person.
5.0 out of 5 stars Loved Jo's honesty
What little weasels some of these rockers are. You get to be on the tellleeee and women drop their drawers for you, even if you look like a demented parrot. I was intrigued by this book, having been in a similar situation myself; basically getting your identity from someone infamous (as in my case), and in Jo's case, from an ugly cretin who could play guitar but got famous due to great management (let's face it, there are hundreds if not thousands of great guitar players) and I'd say the glamour of the models they were hanging around with. The likes of Jerry and Jo helped with the band's publicity for sure. I wish she had spilled more beans though; we know she knows an AWFUL lot more (come on Jo, you owe them nada) than revealed in this book - but it's still a great read if you're interested in egotistic, cruel personalities and the lengths they will go to to satisfy their self-absorbed, oh so self-important selves.
3.0 out of 5 stars Good times and bad times revisited as Jo looks forward
I'm a similar age to Jo and recognise the same naivety and eagerness to experience life as Jo. Ron Wood is a friend of Rod Stewart and I saw Ron on stage with him. By the time he and Jo got together he was with the, already established, Stones. At first, the rock'n'roll lifestyle comes across as you'd expect; parties, drugs, meeting the famous. And Jo enjoys it, but as their family increases Jo has to be the one taking care of things, as she grows up Ronnie doesn't.Jo's writing style is confiding and honest, she 'clicks' with a lot of people who become great friends. She looks to click with the reader and sometimes assumes shared experiences or a willingness to be on her side. I think she has been lucky in life to find many people willing to emotionally support her. She isn't perfect but like all mothers, she has made mistakes but overall she has tried to do her best for her children. She cares about others. Her conversation to organic products following a time of bad health changed her life and her outlook. She was trying to shop organically at a time when very few places were stocking these products, she even began growing her own veg. Writing after the change in culture towards organic farming she doesn't need to preach and doesn't.I don't think anybody seeking to learn more about the Rolling Stones would gain much from this book, besides the awareness that even the famous have money problems, their's are just different to most people's. When Jo ditches Ronnie, she comes back to life and you can feel her do so. The last couple of chapters were worth reading to the end for. Accept, forgive and move on.
5.0 out of 5 stars I like how Jo has 'found' her mojo
Jo tells it like it is. She seems a bit lost some of the time, though she is likeable, fun and plain-speaking. You start out wondering why, even though love makes you do anything, Jo stays with Ronnie. You want to tell her to get out whilst she is still young. In the end, she realises herself and this gives what has happened up to that point in the book a happy ending. You want to root for her. She seems nice.
An awesome read. Jo Wood is amazing!
This book captured and spoke to me personally. Jo Wood has a tale to tell! I was immediately drawn into her stories. As I read, I realized I admire this woman. I related to her. Even though her life has been painted with the trappings of fame and wealth, she is so relatable as a mom, wife and friend. She bares her heart in this book. She is smart, honest, loyal and stunning. Thank you Jo Wood! This is an excellent read. You are beautiful inside and out. I also want to thank you for an amazing revelation: I am a women your age. Your remarkable memoir made me realize that WOMEN, not girls, are amazing, strong, witty, experienced and sexy. There is a beauty to youth that is obvious. But the depth of beauty that is carved into the soul as a girl becomes a lover, a wife, a mother and a lifelong friend is beyond compare. Jo Wood made me feel differently about aging. Every women should read this book to understand the richness in the soul of a woman who has truly sucked the marrow out of life. Every man should read this book to witness just how sexy a WOMAN , not girl, can be. Jo wood is an inspiration in her growth and self- discovery. I picked up the book to have a peek inside the lives of the Rolling Stones but I was spiritually enriched with a glimpes into the life of Jo Wood. She is one hell of a woman!
Interesting
Good book
jo wood's tale
Jo Wood seems to have survived a rock'n'roll life, literally looking after her four kids (inc Ronnie). Actually this book improved with reading - maybe the ghost writer got more to grips with the language, or maybe it was Jo.
Also : Nichts wirklich neues ! Bleibt nur die Frage warum lassen sich manche Frauen so bereitwillig entwerten ? Trotzdem sehr lesenswert ! Und eine sympathische Jo Wood !
I couldn’t help falling in a bit in love with son.
Loved it. Love her, what a funny, strong courageous woman. I’m glad she’s found herself again, she’s someone I think you’d love to have as a friend.
